A Stranger London: Space, Knowledge and Participation in Contemporary Urban Fantasy

Mit Carsten Kullmann, M.A. von der Otto-von-Guericke-Universität Magdeburg

In this lecture on the 14th of May, I will examine constructions and representations of urban space, urban knowledge and urban participation in contemporary London urban fantasy. This premise provokes three main questions that will guide my analysis of the representations of the British capital in the fantastical literary imagination: How is the city spatially imagined? What knowledge is conveyed about the city? What constitutes a liveable city? By answering these key questions, the lecture will highlight possible contributions of a literary studies perspective to culture-driven urban transformations.

Die Veranstaltung ist Teil der Ringvorlesung Stadt. Kulturgetriebene Regeneration. Raum – Wissen – Partizipation, die wöchentlich immer dienstags vom 9. April bis 9. Juli 2024 von 17 bis 19 Uhr im Gebäude 44, Hörsaal 6 in der Zschokkestraße statt findet.
